A Small Chip Doesn’t Have to Mean a New Windscreen

A stone chip or small crack may be repairable without removing your windscreen. We review the damage, then use specialist resin to fill suitable chips and help prevent them from spreading. As a general guide, chips smaller than a $1 coin may be repairable, but their location and condition matter too.

Can Your Windscreen Be Repaired?

  • Stone chips
  • Small star cracks
  • Bullseye chips
  • Short cracks
  • Under a $1 coin

Edge damage, larger chips and spreading or spidering cracks may need a replacement. We’ll check the full extent of the damage before recommending the right service.

How We Repair Your Windscreen

  • Assess the damage – Check its size, position and condition to determine whether repair is suitable.

  • Clean the area – Remove debris from the damaged area before applying the repair resin.

  • Inject the resin – Fill the chip and suitable small cracks with specialist resin to help prevent further spreading.

  • Cure with UV light – Harden the resin using UV equipment as part of the repair process.

  • Polish and inspect – Polish the repaired area and check the finished result before handing the vehicle back.

Repairing the Damage, Keeping the Glass

Specialist resin fills the damaged area and is hardened with UV light to help stop the chip from spreading. We then polish and inspect the repair. The aim is to restore integrity, while a small mark may remain visible.

Windscreen Chip & Crack Repair FAQs

Your Questions Answered

Find out what can be repaired, what it costs and what to expect from the result.

  • Can my windscreen chip or crack be repaired?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Chips smaller than a $1 coin may be repairable, depending on their location and condition. Larger chips, edge damage and spreading or spidering cracks may need replacement. Damage in the driver’s view also needs careful assessment. Send us a photo; we’ll confirm suitability after inspecting the glass.

  • How much does windscreen chip repair cost?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The cost depends on the damage and the work required. Share your vehicle details and a photo for a free quote. We’ll explain the price before booking and let you know if the damage needs a replacement instead.

  • How long will the repair take, and when can I drive?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Chip repair normally takes up to 30 minutes. We’ll confirm the expected appointment length once we understand the damage. The process includes cleaning, resin injection, UV curing and a final inspection. Your technician will let you know when the repair is complete and the vehicle is ready to drive.

  • Will the chip disappear completely after repair?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Not always. A repair fills the damage and helps prevent it from spreading, but a small mark may remain. The result depends on the chip’s size and condition. We’ll explain the likely finish before we start; a successful repair doesn’t have to be completely invisible.

  • Can I claim windscreen chip repair on insurance?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Check with your insurer whether your policy covers chip repair, whether an excess applies and if you can choose your repairer. You’ll need to lodge the claim directly with them. Metro Auto Glass can complete approved repair work where your insurer and policy permit.

  • What warranty do you offer on windscreen repairs?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Our lifetime workmanship guarantee covers issues caused by our work, which we’ll fix free of charge. It excludes general wear and tear of materials, customer-caused damage and accident damage. A residual mark can be a normal repair outcome, as explained before the work.
